MOTIONS OF EQUINOX
"Christine Pan showcases the beauty of the harp through important silence and clever writing ....the work takes the listener on a deep journey through the different registers, textures and sonorities"
Pan collaborated with harpist Kate Moloney to compose this work inspired by sociology and physics. Seeing the similarity between the "spins" of relationships and figure-skating, Motions of Equinox explores the dynamics of human interactions through the structural and harmonic trajectory of the piece.
I. Blind Euphoria
II. Nostalgia for Celestial Bodies
ABC Classic is thrilled to be releasing the fifth volume in our now annual celebration of Australia’s female composers, Women of Note. Released to coincide with International Women’s Day (8 March 2023), this album presents music from five rising stars in the Australian art music scene – Christine Pan, Heather Percy, Ella Macens, Marlene Cummins and Elizabeth Younan – plus two of the most respected women composing today: Anne Boyd and Deborah Cheetham Fraillon.
In Motions of Equinox, Christine Pan finds an unexpected meeting point between human relationships and the laws of physics in the twists and glides of figure skating.

LATEST ELECTROACOUSTIC SINGLE
TIME CAPSULE

Pan’s first single ‘Time Capsule’ is created as an audio-visual project with Australian-Filipinx animator Bea Brabante. The track is a study of the current self and the inner child, the difficulties of surviving in an inter-cultural space and all the societal, familial and financial pressures that come with being a first gen Australian-Asian. Blending the bel canto and Chinese opera techniques, Pan layers immersive vocal harmonies with beats sampled from the shuffling of Mahjong tiles. The work is cathartically vulnerable and aims to provide spiritual care for our inner child. It has a message of care and self-compassion, not trying to solve anything but simply sitting and embracing our emotions.
Listen Now
Christine Pan is all about people and the human condition, how we behave in certain ways and what drives us. Pan takes pride in meticulously researching the world around her.
